December's Pictures

Das Boot
Das Boot (Sony Ericsson K700i)

This is a picture of the U-Boat on the Warship Museum in Birkenhead. Quite a small museum, but it's a good place to go if you have never even been on a warship, which sounds a stupid thing to say, because I suspect most people won't think of doing it. We didn't have a look at the U-Boat, the place was closing, but did get a chance to walk through a submarine HMS Onyx, and strange to think you could live in the cramped conditions for 90 days. I did try out a bed and being 6ft 1ins it wasn't my style, but strangely enough I didn't feel claustrophobic, but then again we weren't deep under the sea with goodness knows how many other people rushing about at battle stations. HMS Plymouth was interesting and being a boat had more room, but only a little more, but the U-Boat U534 (pictured) did evade us, so we shall have to go back and go for that tour next time.

Update 26/8/2006: I found out yesterday that the museum closed in February this year which it a great pity, I know the boats were scattered but the whereabouts of the U-Boat I don't know. If anyone does I would appreciate them emailing. I can't help thinking that the demise of the Museum was to do with the luxury apartments being build behind which is understandable, after all we definitely need more of them!

Update 25/3/2008: Found at last at Woodend Ferry Port

Leasowe Lighthouse
Leasowe Lighthouse (Nisis DV5)

There's nothing at Leasowe, nothing at all, even less than at Cleveleys and for the life of me I couldn't find the entry I have for Cleveleys. There is a lighthouse and that's probably all, supposedly it has dunes, though the concrete on the front tells me that the dunes went long ago. Anyway, here's the lighthouse, quite strange because at the top I can't see much room for a light, however it was closed so my ability to find out whether this was because I'd not seen it or that the lighthouse had been modified was reduced.

Lomo Debut
Lomo Debut (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Here's a mural depicting the Romans, taken with this camera, the Rollei and the newly bought Lomo copy with a 170 degree fisheye lens, so as you can imagine (all those who know what I'm talking about) I got quite close with the Lomo before I snapped. One problem I only realised later is that the Lomo really takes better pics with 400ASA and all I have is 100, and since it's fixed focus, aperture and shutter speed I could have a very dim set of prints. Ah well I shall call it a test reel.

Roman Fort
Roman Fort (Sony Ericsson K700i)

This is the Roman fort in Manchester to the right of the huge tower, well not directly, but if I turned left now then you'd see the new tower in Manchester. Can't tell you much about this as my Wife and Daughter were off and I had yet to take a picture of the mural depicting the Romans.

Manchester Tower 2
Manchester Tower 2 (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Back to the great tower that is being built in Manchester. I have forgotten what the tower is called (I did look it up), but it's going to hose a Hilton Hotel among other things. As I have mentioned before further away it looks bigger and this time I am a little further being at the remaining Roman walls in Manchester.

In the Void
In the Void (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Further down towards Stockport it looked a little grim. Mind you this is partly to do with the fact that I didn't turn the contrast on the camera up, so it looks a little more like some disaster movie than it should.

Into the Void
Into the Void (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Whilst last night was foggy, it cleared, but driving off on Christmas Day fog loomed at the end of our street. In fact I think our street seemed the clearest for miles, however we only drove into Stockport, so the East side of Manchester could have clear as day.

Foggy Christmas Night
Foggy Christmas Night (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Oh blimey it’s the foggiest Christmas eve that I’ve ever seen. It came down all of a sudden and like a blanket we can’t see anything. Not like last year which was white, the famous white Christmas In Denton.

Next year I hope for a the rainiest… at least we don’t live in a valley.

Happy Christmas.

Dummond Castle Peacock
Dummond Castle Peacock (Minolta X500)

Two Christmas parties have taken their toll, so I am left with little time to take pictures, so it's again regrettably back to archive pictures. Here's a picture of a Peacock in the grounds of Drummond Castle. Too a while to get the snap, the bird kept on running off or taking down it's plumage, but finally after stalking the poor thing it relented and we got the result you can see here.

Manchester Tower
Manchester Tower (Sony Ericsson K700i)

Finally I got the chance to take a picture of the largest tower in Manchester. There's supposed to be shopping, apartments and offices. It doesn't really look that impressive from here and as I mentioned before looks taller the further awy from it you get which is quite strange.

GMEX Bridge
GMEX Bridge (Sony Ericsson K700i)

This is the bridge between Deansgate Station a GMEX. I thought that the symetry of the loops looked interesting. Whilst it's in many ways a pretty ugly bridge the symetry made it all seem a little better... I think.
